Did you know that Earth Day is April 22nd? Kathy Adams here today to share a Earth Day inspired canvas using the 8″ Round and 4″ Round Gel Press Plates.
A Little Earth Day Background
The first Earth Day was in 1970. Sen. Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin was inspired to create a day focused on education about environmental issues when he saw the effects of an oil spill that occurred in California. Earth Day created public support for the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and contributed to the passage of the Clean Air Act, the Water Quality Improvement Act, the Endangered Species Act and several other environmental laws.
I’m Just One Little Person
If we all do one little thing to improve our planet, imagine the impact. I’m going to give you some ideas that are really easy and may even save you money, too. My “one little thing” is making homemade laundry detergent. If you are interested in trying it, see my tutorial here. I started making it for selfish reasons; to save money and for health reasons. I’ve since learned what plastics do to our oceans and landfills. One-use plastics are a huge problem to our environment. Water bottles, household cleaning products, soda and juice bottles and lots more, are in this category. Next time you go to the grocery store, think about the container that you’re buying. Recently, I noticed that a different company’s “not from concentrate” orange juice was in a non-plastic carton at a cheaper price. I thought, “It’s not going to taste as good as the brand in the plastic container, but I’ll try it.” It tasted the same and I saved money! So I’m asking you to think about the container you usually buy, and if there is a comparable product in a non-plastic container, consider buying it instead. They are usually less expensive too!

Project
I had such fun creating the earth and pink moon using the round Gel Press Plates. And you won’t believe how easy it is to do. Watch my creative process in the video below.
If you missed the pink moon, I found out that it isn’t rare at all. It happens every April when the moon is full. Who knew?? So you can catch it next year on April 30, 2018.
When I look at this canvas, it will remind me to do that one little thing to help keep our environment a better place.
